Collaborative Environments

Since 2010, I have been involved with a collaborative group, White Matter Studio, which has looked at different methods, means and environments through which design collaboration can engage. Our explorations and findings have been self-published in the journal Margin

Edited by Tania Allen and Brooke Chornyak, Margin is an experimental online and limited edition print journal devised with the intention of exploring how and what it means to collaborate in our transient digital environment. Volume 1: “inside_outside” granted an open, broad spectrum of interpretations, from literal to suggestive. Submissions examined a range of complex issues such as relationships between spaces and individuals transition, or the many tensions and challenges designers face operating inside and outside of a community simultaneously. Our most recent collaborative project—FontLab—was an experiment in online collaborative typeface design. The results of the project will be submitted to the Type Directors Club Annual Competition. A process book from the work will be published Summer, 2016.
